Twitter Marketing – Is It A Profitable Way To Build Your List?

Many years ago, there was a big push about Twitter marketing tools. It was believed that you could use Twitter as an effective method to grow a list of potential buyers for your products or services. Cutting through the hype, just what type of results can you expect after employing these Twitter marketing tools? Precisely how good is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to see if it will actually repay your time and effort.

I was one of those who was curious to see if getting a big following on Twitter was going to help my product promotion campaigns and so purchased the tools. Not only did I shell out money to register in programs that would get me followers but I invested in a number of softwares to help promote the products I was selling. Altogether, I think I invested in about 8 software programs to help with my Twitter marketing venture.

One of these programs was an automatic ‘people follower’ on Twitter with the objective that some of those people would follow me also. Next there was the Twitter marketing tool that would un-follow people who were not following me. Removing non-followers meant I could concentrate on those who might be persuaded to follow me. Together with some other tools that are not actually worth noting, I purchased a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog. I must say that the combined effect of using all these programs together gave great results because each program did as advertised. But as soon as it seemed I wasn’t making any money, my initial enthusiasm was soon dampened. Each day I would post approximately ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be shown on Twitter too. Wanting to increase the number of daily posts, I discovered a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully gain more followers.

The results of my Twitter marketing efforts are: After three years using these tools, I had built about 10,000 Twitter followers. I bet you think this is an impressive number, but I’m not done yet: During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on more than fifteen thousand blog posts in my Twitter account. My blog posts appearing on Twitter was the only kind of advertising for that blog I did and to determine the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Well I found out, in the last 3 years I pulled in 2 affiliate sales for a total of $48, and I made $8.52 with Adsense. And that specific blog only receives about 2 to 4 visitors daily from Twitter.

Even with nearly 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not sufficient to pull in money marketing with Twitter. The bottom line is that the money I’ve made is not enough to cover the cost of the Twitter software I purchased to start with. There may be other more successful methods of marketing on Twitter, but from my experience, using automatic software tools is not one of them.
